Homemade Plaid Table Runner Made Using My Rigid Heddle Loom

Plaid Table Runner Woven Handmade Loom

I have always wanted a loom.  I thought it would be so cool to make my own rugs and table runners etc.  But I thought they would be way to big and expensive for me to own.  Then one day I was looking at stuff on Amazon and I saw this.  It is called a “rigid heddle loom.”  Mine was made by a company called Ashford. It is in Australia.  It clamps onto a table when I am using it and I can slide it under my bed when I’m done.  It can make something up to 32 inches wide which is big enough to do most rugs.

My helpers are my super adorable grandkids.
I have no clue what my dog is doing.

I’m still just experimenting with it.  I haven’t even got the right kinds of threads yet. I’ve just used left-over yarn that I have laying around the house.

Using My Rigid Heddle Loom to Weave a Plaid Pattern Table Runner

It’s pretty easy to get going on it.  I found a you-tube video by ashford that shows you how to set up the warps (the long strings that you weave through).  I’ve looked at some stores on-line to find where I can buy the rug warp so that I can make rugs.  Once I get the rug warp I am going to try making rugs using old t-shirts.
