Origami Paper Balls

Years ago my daughter learned how to make these paper balls in school and I thought they were really fun so I made some out of wrapping paper and use them on my Christmas tree. This is a great project for older children.  You can show them how to do it and they can be happily occupied for a long time.

For a Christmas tree, I like to make multiple sizes of balls and put large ones at the bottom and smaller ones as I go up the tree.

The ball on the left is using 3 inch squares, the center one is 4 inch squares, the right one is 5 inch squares.

Practice using regular paper.  It is stiffer and will be easier to work with than wrapping paper.  After you have got it down if you would like to use wrapping paper be sure that it is a good quality one that is rather stiff.

I will show you how to make them in this video.

Putting the ball together will take some practice.  Don’t get discouraged!   Once you have a point under a flap there is really only one place the next one can go. Make sure you find all of the points, sometimes they like to hide underneath. You might want to have someone help you hold it together as you figure which one goes where.

There, you have a very easy and inexpensive Christmas tree ornament that’s lots of fun to make.
